Plan it.

A year ago, I bought a Wahoo Kickr Trainer. It was an upgrade from the Kinetic trainer that my wife inherited from her Pops. It was so fun to see all the different training plans, workouts, and my power output. I was stoked, so I did what I was told and took a Ramp Test to find my FTP. 215 W. Not too bad. I wanted to explore the workouts so I didn’t commit to a training plan. I also lifted and ran occasionally. After 2 months I retook my Ramp Test. 219W. Hm. A whopping 4 W improvement. Not what I was hoping after “training” over the past couple months.

Fast forward a few months. I decided, I am going to commit to a real training plan. So I picked a biking one from the Wahoo System app, with 2 days of weight training (for hypertrophy) and 2 days of running (Long Trail Run and Track workout). My Ramp Test was still at 219W. However, after 2 months of following my training plan 85% of the time (life happens), I retested my Ramp Test. 252 W!

2 months doing workouts without a structured plan = 4 W power improvement.

2 months doing workouts with a structured plan = 33 W power improvement.

Okay, I’m convinced!
